Overview
SmartMail Agent lets you handle email without opening your inbox. You send a WhatsApp message, either typed or as a voice note, and an AI agent carries out the request in Gmail and replies on WhatsApp.
How it works
1. Intake and transcription. A WhatsApp Business Cloud trigger receives the message, and a switch detects text or audio. Voice notes are downloaded and transcribed with OpenAI Whisper.
2. Email agent. A GPT-4 Turbo agent with windowed conversation memory interprets the intent in English or French. Its tools look up recipients in an Airtable contact base and use Gmail to send emails or create drafts.
3. Response. The agent's reply is returned as text, or converted to speech with OpenAI TTS and sent back as a voice message when the user spoke.
Engineering notes
The agent-plus-tools design (Gmail and Airtable as callable tools, plus buffer memory) means it can handle multi-turn, natural-language commands rather than rigid keywords.
